On Thursday November 29th we had a guest speaker in class, Vic Mitchell. He is this head basketball coach at Shorter University and Assistant Athletic Director. I few key points he talked about were:
- Started as Reinhardt’s women’s coach/ men’s assistant coach
o Forced to make a hard decision between Shorter and Reinhardt
o Shorter has 685 athletes now
o Shorter has Moved up to 21 Competitive Sports
o Have a plan for your future-Future bosses like this
o Study people who know what they’re doing
o Promise less deliver more
o Don’t get satisfied
o Pick battles big enough to fight and small enough to win
- Take Initiative-Don’t wait for things to happen
- 4 year school was better for him than 2 year
Questions for speaker:
- Do you get to coach as a grad assistant?
- How much money can you get as a grad assistant?
Sports leadership information learned from speaker:
- Learn from the best; dont try to learn everything on your own
- You will never get to the top if you settle
- Getting your masters is a postive
- Evalute properly before you make a decision
